Gordo, Masuda Take Commanding Leads; Jones Leads Lamar, Cole Out Front

In the second round of results in Tuesday’s election, Mayor Victor Gordo remained out front, but challenger Allen Shay managed to gain small ground.

Gordo remains far ahead with an 83.73 percent lead (11,458 votes). Shay has just 2,227 votes.

Gordo took a solid lead in the first round of results with nearly 85% of the vote.

In District 2, Rick Cole’s lead dipped slightly but has not fallen below 62% of the vote.

Incumbent Felicia Williams trails with 37.54% of the vote.

The total vote count in that race is 1,313-789.

Keeping with the trend, Brandon Lamar gained some ground on Incumbent Justin Jones.

But Jones’ vote percentage remains above 62%.

Jones has 733 votes and Lamar trails with 434.

Gene Masuda has a large lead in District 4 still hovers near 70% of the vote in early results. Jonathan Horton trails far behind with nearly 22.85% of the vote, and Jonathan Doyle has just 7.62% of the vote.

Voter participation is down significantly compared to the 2020 primary election.

So far, according to ABC Channel 7, which quoted a spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Registrar/County Clerk as of Monday, there were 73,145 check-ins at Los Angeles County voting centers this year in the lead up to, but not including, Election Day.

In 2020, there were 267,367 check-ins at the same point.

The City Council voted to move its elections to coincide with state elections several years ago to comply with the Voting Rights Act.

The move ended the City count of local elections, which used to occur at City Hall.

March 12 is the final day for votes postmarked by March 5 to arrive at County elections offices and final voter numbers won’t be known until sometime after that.
