Pasadena fire officials enacted Red Flag parking restrictions in Pasadena on Monday, as the region was under both a High Wind Warning and Red Flag Warning for fire danger.
The parking restrictions for the narrow roads at Pasadena’s urban-wildlife interface took effect at 11 a.m. and were to remain in place “until further notice,” Pasadena spokeswoman Lisa Derderian said.
A listing of impacted streets is available online at cityofpasadena.net/fire/red-flag-parking-restrictions.
“A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are expected,” Derderian said in a written statement. “This is, in combination with dry fuels, could create extreme fire danger and/or fire behavior. Please use caution with potential fire sources.”
Extra fire patrols were planned for the foothill communities north of the 210, which the National Weather Service said was expected to see 20 to 30 mph winds, with local gusts of up to 60 mph.
“People should avoid being outside in forested areas and around trees and branches. If possible, remain in the lower levels of your home during the windstorm, and avoid windows. Use caution if you must drive,” according to a High Wind Warning issued by the NWS.
The High Wind Warning was to remain in effect through 3 p.m. Monday.
But a Red Flag Warning issued by the NWS would remain in effect through 6 p.m. Tuesday.
“Damaging wind gusts of 60 to 90 mph will continue through this evening in the mountains of Los Angeles and Ventura counties, and 50 to 65 mph in the wind prone valleys and foothill,” the Red Flag Warning stated.
“A reminder to also secure your halloween decorations, gates/fences, trash cans, patio furniture and anything else that can serve as projectile items,” according to Derderian.
City officials also reminded residents to review evacuation plans and check emergency kit supplies.
City resident were also urged to sign up for the Pasadena Local Emergency Alert System at cityofpasadena.net/fire/pleas to recgeteive voice, email and/or text emergency notifications. , as well as Los Angeles County’s Alert LA County mass notification system at lacounty.gov/emergency/alert-la.
