Huntington Health extended an estimated $161,549,349 worth of health care services and assistance to residents of the San Gabriel Valley and neighboring areas in 2023, in line with its non-profit mission of providing substantial benefits to the communities it serves, according to its annual report to the Department of Health Care Assessment and Information.

Services provided primarily focus on health education, outreach initiatives, and affordable or no-cost hospital care for uninsured individuals and those with limited financial resources.

“As the leading non-profit health care establishment in the San Gabriel Valley, we are deeply committed to enhancing the health and wellness of our community,” Dr. Lori J. Morgan, President and CEO of Huntington Health, said.

“This community benefit report details the many ways Huntington Health, with support from our trusted community partners, enhances access to care throughout Pasadena and surrounding areas. I’m incredibly proud of these efforts.”

Community benefits cover charitable care for financially challenged patients, alongside care expenses covered by the hospital. These benefits also support various endeavors such as research, education, and training, including clinical research, graduate medical education programs, scholarships, and continuous education across diverse disciplines including nursing.

Dr. Ying-Ying Goh, Pasadena’s Director of Public Health and Health Officer, said her department and the city are highly appreciative of Huntington Health’s support, especially for the Pasadena Outreach Response Team (PORT) program and community vaccination.

“This partnership provides support for our community’s health outside of the hospital, focusing on prevention and social drivers of health,” Dr. Goh said.

The report also listed some notable accomplishments by Huntington Health throughout 2023, including almost 3,000 callers receiving support and referrals from the Senior Care Network (SCN), 2,572 individuals benefiting from free Fentanyl and Narcan education, 1,681 individuals receiving free flu vaccinations, and some 1,095 individuals, including residents, interns, and nursing students, receiving education and training.

Huntington Health also provided more than 1,200 health screenings and counseling sessions, transportation assistance in terms of bus tokens and cab fares to some 800 individuals, and virtual educational lectures to some 549 older community members.

Over 200 individuals completed a six-week diabetes education series by Huntington Health, and 507 seniors received assistance to maintain their independence at home.
