Local Business Green Coast Pet Offers Discounts to Furloughed Feds

The government shutdown is entering its 35th day and not only are furloughed workers feeling the pinch, their pets are, too.
Mindful of this reality, Pasadena-based Green Coast Pet is offering all U.S. government employees affected by the current shutdown its full range of dog and cat products at cost, with minimal shipping charges, until the standoff ends.
“Thousands of U.S. Federal employees and their families continue to be greatly affected by this government shutdown. Green Coast Pet celebrates that pets are part of the family, and taking care of them can be expensive, especially during this hard time,” Green Coast Pet Co-Founder and Chief Operating Officer Mike Bateman said. “We simply want to make it easier to give pets the products they love.”
Bateman said in a Jan. 24 interview that the company had some great stories of furloughed employees taking advantage of the offer just one day after it was announced.
“No matter where you stand on the political spectrum, these employees still have pets,” he said. “So we give back where we can. We partner with rescues, we make donations, we do more outside of this particular thing.”
With Nick Massey, Bateman established Green Coast Pet after working together for over a year at a small start-up pet company. Their mission is to provide pets with the best possible products on the market today.
“To make use of the offer, U.S. federal employees can simply send an email to, share a little bit about you and your pet, and enjoy your next Green Coast Pet order at-cost,” a company statement said.
