Police arrested a man suspected of shooting up the Pasadena Planned Parenthood location with BBs over recent months after he struck again on Friday morning, authorities said.

Richard Royden Chamberlin, 51, of San Bernardino, was arrested minutes after the most recent vandalism, which took place about 8:05 a.m. at the facility, 1045 N. Lake Avenue, according to Pasadena police officials and Los Angeles County booking records.

Staff had noticed holes in windows and other marks from BB strikes at least a half-dozen times over recent months, Pasadena police Lt. Anthony Burgess said. In response, workers installed surveillance cameras and police began closely monitoring the facility. Investigators soon obtained a description of the vehicle involved in the vandalisms.

Upon learning it had happened again on Friday morning, officers immediately headed to the 210 Freeway in hopes of finding the suspect making a getaway, according to Burgess. The tactic paid off, and they soon spotted the suspect vehicle and pulled it over.

Officers found eight BB guns inside the car, as well as a .22-caliber handgun, police said. The driver, Chamberlin, denied involvement in the vandalisms.

He was booked on suspicion of vandalism and weapon-related charges, Burgess said.

A motive for the alleged vandalism spree was not clear.

Chamberlain was being held in lieu of $35,000 bail pending his initial court appearance, records show.

  • Why is this man, who had a gun!, out on bail for 35,000 when he has to pay a mere 3,500 to get out. This is ridiculous and extremely unsafe for the workers! Come on people, do more! Are you waiting for him to do something else, something worse, before is held for a higher bond or jail time?!
