A man was attacked by three would-be robbers who ultimately fled empty-handed from the parking lot of a Pasadena grocery store on Tuesday evening, police said.

The crime unfolded about 7:15 p.m. outside a Ralphs grocery store at 160 N. Lake Ave., according to Pasadena Police Department officials.

A local man in his 40s was walking from the store to his car when someone began shouting profanities at him, Pasadena police Lt. Sean Dawkins said.

The victim yelled back and was then surrounded by three men who demanded his wallet, the lieutenant said.

Police said the three attackers punched and kicked the victim while trying to pull his wallet from his pocket, but were unable to get it as the victim fought back.

The three attackers, described as men in their 20s, got into a dark sedan and sped away, according to Dawkins.

The victim suffered cuts, abrasions and swelling but did not wish to be hospitalized, he added.

  • My car was stolen from their parking lot two weeks ago. They need better lights in the parking lot and a security guard outside.
