A man reported being held at gunpoint, struck with the buttstock of a rifle, robbed and carjacked in a residential neighborhood in Pasadena on Monday afternoon, police said.

The crime took place just before 7 p.m in the 200 block of Carlton Avenue, just east of Lincoln Avenue, said Pasadena police Lt. Pete Hettema.

The 24-year-old Pasadena man had just arrived in the neighborhood to visit a friend and parked his car when a gray, four-door passenger car pulled up alongside his own, the lieutenant said. The car contained three men wearing dark clothing, including hooded sweatshirts.

“The victim saw the rear passenger holding an AR[-style] rifle in his direction, Hettema said.

The victim told police the front passenger also exited the car, brandished two handguns, and demanded the victim get out of his car and hand over his property, he said.

The rear passenger then approached and struck the victim in the head with the buttstock of the rifle.

Police said the front passenger reached into the victim’s pocket and took his money, then got into the victim’s car and drove away, leaving him behind and following the gray car containing his accomplices.

The stolen car was later found abandoned in Long Beach, Hettema said. A detailed description of the attackers was not available.

Paramedics treated the victim for a contusion to his head, he said.
