Authorities on Wednesday released the identity of a 59-year-old man who was struck and killed by an SUV as he walked along the 210 Freeway in Pasadena on Sunday night.
Trenton Blankenship died at the scene of the collision, which took place about 9:20 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of the freeway near Lake Avenue, according to Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner-Coroner and California Highway Patrol officials. He was described as homeless.
Witnesses called 911 about 9:05 to report seeing a man walking on the freeway, CHP Officer Vince Ramirez said.
Less than 15 minutes later, officials received additional calls reporting that the man had been struck by an SUV in the carpool lane.
Blankenship was thrown over the center divider barrier and onto the Metro Gold Line tracks that separate eastbound and westbound lanes of traffic, Ramirez said. Paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene.
The driver, described as an 18-year-old man, remained at the scene.
The investigation was ongoing.
Any witnesses, or anyone with information, can reach the CHP’s Altadena Office at (626) 296-8100.
