A man in his thirties told Pasadena Fire Dept. Urban Search and Rescue crews Sunday about 4:30 p.m. that he had been bitten by a rattlesnake.

The USAR crews responded to the Eaton Canyon parking structure where the man told them the rattler was a baby — about 9 inches long.

He was transported to local hospital in stable condition.

“This is rare but a warning to be prepared, as the heat intensifies this week,” said Pasadena spokeswoman Lisa Derderian.

If you are bitten by a snake, call 911 or go to the ER immediately, even if you don’t think the snake is venomous. Try to remember the size, color, and shape of the snake, Derderian said

” If the bite is from a venomous snake, you may be given antivenom medication, which can slow down or stop the effects of toxins in the body”
