Marijuana Delivery Driver Carjacked in Pasadena, 2nd Such Incident in 2 Weeks

Two men carjacked a marijuana delivery driver at gunpoint in Pasadena late Thursday in a crime that resembled a similar heist reported two weeks ago, police said.

The carjacking took place about 9:50 p.m. after a driver for a marijuana delivery company had made a drop-off in the 500 block of Del Monte Street, Pasadena police Lt. Anthony Burgess said.

Two men approached the victim, he said. They ordered the victim out of his delivery van at gunpoint and fled in the vehicle. The driver was not hurt.

Officers followed a GPS tracker and found the delivery van abandoned near the Rose Bowl a short time later, according to Burgess. An undetermined amount of marijuana that had been stored inside was missing.

Detailed descriptions of the suspects were not available.

The crime showed strong similarities to another carjacking reported in Pasadena about two weeks earlier on Jan. 15.

In that incident, a driver from the same company had just made a delivery to a home near Washington Park when he was approached by two men, one armed with a handgun, police said at the time.

They took the victim’s delivery truck, which was soon found abandoned at a parking lot outside the Rose Bowl, Burgess said. The marijuana had been stolen.

Detailed suspect descriptions in the Jan. 15 crime were also not available.

Detectives were looking into whether the two carjackings were linked, Burgess said.
