Popular Pasadena Bakery Closes After Employee Tests Positive for COVID-19

Nothing Bundt Cakes Pasadena, located at 548 South Lake Ave. just north of California Blvd., is temporarily closed after staff tested positive for the coronavirus, franchise owner and operator Ingrid Kuo announced on Facebook Sunday.

“I’m sorry to announce that Nothing Bundt Cakes (Pasadena and Rosemead) is temporarily closed due to coronavirus exposure. We apologize for the inconvenience and hope to serve you all again soon,” Kuo’s post said.

In a later response to a Facebook comment, Kuo said one kitchen staff was infected, and they were having every member of the team from both Pasadena and Rosemead tested.

Food and travel journalist Kristie Hang first reported on Twitter Sunday that the two locations were closing due to staff COVID-19 exposure.

Nothing Bundt Cakes, based in Texas, opened the Pasadena branch in a three-day bash in March and April 2015, starting with a Door of Hope Benefit Day, when the store donated 20 percent of sales to the charity Door of Hope which helps homeless families to rebuild their lives with transitional housing.

A week later, members of the Pasadena Chamber of Commerce were present during the branch’s formal opening.

Kuo, who lives in Pasadena with her husband and four children, said she decided to open in Pasadena because it has that “big city feel with the heart of a small town.”

Her Facebook announcement on Sunday earned praises for the transparency and “looking out for your customers,” with well-wishers saying they hope the stores will open soon.

Kuo said they were in the process of refunding online and phone orders that came in before her announcement.
