After receiving official permission last week to proceed with competition, Pasadena American Little League saw its first games of the season played on Tuesday.
After months of socially distanced practice under uncertainty about when games would be able to resume, PAAL received the green light from Pasadena Public Health Department officials on March 8, the organization said in a written statement.
Just over a week later, the first pitch was thrown, according to PAAL Vice President James Yin. All age groups were expected to have their first games by Saturday.
“We’re super happy to see everybody out there, playing and watching,” he said.
While the league did not host the traditional opening day fanfare, and fundraising during the pandemic remains a challenge, league members were just glad to be able to return to the field.
Pandemic precautions remain in effect, Yin said. Players must wear masks while on the field and remain socially distanced in the dugout.
Among other protocols in place, all players will have their temperatures checked prior to arrival, only household members are permitted as spectators, and all spectators must wear masks, according to the league.
