The Pasadena Hindu Temple is preparing to host a grand celebration of four major Indian festivals – Lohri, Makar Sankranti, Pongal, and Bihu – on Sunday, January 14th.

These festivals, significant in Indian culture, mark the end of winter and the onset of longer days. They are tied to the agricultural cycle and the harvest season, with each festival having its unique customs and rituals. Lohri is celebrated in northern India, Makar Sankranti is observed nationwide, Pongal is a southern tradition, and Bihu is celebrated in the northeastern state of Assam. The celebrations involve traditional activities such as bonfires, feasting, kite flying, and cultural performances.

The event, sponsored by Rachna & Avinash Srivatsav and Family, will take place at the temple’s location at 676 S. Rosemead Blvd.

The day’s schedule includes a Ganesh, Vishnu & Navgrah Puja at 4:00 pm, followed by Satyanarayan Katha at 5:00 pm. The evening will conclude with Aarti and Mahaprasad at 6:00 pm. Earlier in the day, a Kite Flying Competition will be held from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm at Eisenhower Park, located at 601 N 2nd Ave, Arcadia, CA 91006.

Indian Kites and Thread will be available for a nominal donation of $15 to the Temple. All donations to the Pasadena Hindu Temple are tax-deductible and support the temple’s activities and community events. Donations can be made via Zelle: 6262786519 or Checks payable to PASADENA HINDU TEMPLE.

It aims to educate, preserve, promote, and further the religious traditions and the cultural heritage of the Hindu community in California. The temple is dedicated to the Hindu deities and provides a unique center for worship and pilgrimage in North America.
