A preliminary hearing date was set for Tuesday morning for Mark Anthony Levels, a 54-year-old resident of Pasadena, who is charged with the fatal shooting of Tynisha Houston, a fellow tenant at a local apartment complex.

The incident occurred in August 2023, reportedly following a tenant dispute that escalated into a violent confrontation. Houston, 34, was shot around 1:00 a.m. at the complex located in the 2000 block of North Fair Oaks Avenue, authorities said.

She was transported to a local hospital by Pasadena Fire Department paramedics, where she later succumbed to her injuries.

Levels was found by patrol officers within the same apartment complex shortly after the shooting and was detained without incident, police said at the time.

He had allegedly sustained injuries from a physical altercation that preceded the shooting and was transported to a local hospital following his arrest.

Detectives from the Pasadena Police Department’s Robbery/Homicide Unit (RHU) responded to the homicide scene immediately. During their investigation, RHU detectives executed a search warrant and recovered a firearm, according to police.

On August 10, 2023, the Los Angeles County District Attorney’s Office filed a felony complaint on Levels for PC 187(a) (Murder) under court case #GA115036. Bail was set at $3.1 million.

The court appearance is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. Feb. 27 in Dept. H, Pasadena Courthouse, 300 E. Walnut St.
