The City of Pasadena has launched a search for a new General Manager to lead its Department of Water and Power, with officials emphasizing the importance of community feedback in selecting the right person for the high-profile job.

City Manager Miguel Márquez announced the start of the recruitment process, opening the period for applications, with screenings and interviews scheduled in the month of May.

“As we search for a new General Manager of Water & Power, we are looking for the public to provide input on the qualities and qualifications they would like to see in a new General Manager,” the city said in a post on Instagram.

Márquez said the public has the opportunity to participate in the selection process by attending a Zoom meeting on Thursday, April 25, starting at 6 p.m. Community members can provide input during the meeting regarding the qualities they believe are most crucial for potential candidates.

In addition, an online survey is available until April 28, allowing for broader community participation in the selection process. To access the survey, go to Bit.ly/PWPCommunitySurvey

“Community input is crucial to selecting the best individual to lead the Department,” Márquez said. “I encourage all community stakeholders to attend the upcoming forum and share their thoughts on the characteristics and professional background they feel are most important when selecting a new General Manager.”

In February, Márquez appointed Assistant City Manager David Reyes as PWP’s Acting General Manager as the city prepared the recruitment process.

He also appointed Finance Director Matthew Hawkesworth to serve as Acting Assistant City Manager until a new General Manager has been hired.

The city has also published a brochure which PWP customers and community members can read to know more about the duties of the General Manager, and other important information about Pasadena Water and Power. Those who are not able to attend are still encouraged to respond to the online survey at Bit.ly/PWPCommunitySurvey.
