Pasadena to Host Free E-Waste Recycling Event

Published on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 | 3:40 pm

The City of Pasadena will host a free e-waste recycling event on Saturday, April 13, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. The event will be held in Parking Lot I outside the Rose Bowl Stadium near Brookside Park, located at 360 North Arroyo Blvd.

The event is designed to allow residents to safely dispose of various electronic items such as computers, keyboards, printers, monitors, laptops, televisions, and more. For safety reasons, only cars are allowed to enter the event; no walk-ups are permitted.

In addition to e-waste recycling, the event will offer free paper shredding services to help prevent identity theft.

Each participant can bring up to three legal-size boxes for shredding, including sensitive documents like receipts, checks, credit card statements, and business cards.

Proof of Pasadena residency is required, and the event duration depends on truck capacity. For more details, residents can contact the City’s Department of Public Works at (626) 744-7311 or email Recycle@CityOfPasadena.net.

E-waste, or electronic waste, refers to discarded electronic devices like computers, smartphones, laptops, and servers. The importance of recycling e-waste lies in its environmental and health implications.

E-waste often contains hazardous substances like lead, mercury, cadmium, and flame retardants, which can contaminate ecosystems and pose risks to human and wildlife health if not disposed of properly.

Recycling e-waste is crucial as it prevents the release of these harmful materials into the environment, reduces greenhouse gas emissions, conserves resources, and creates economic opportunities.

By recycling electronic devices, we can protect the environment, conserve resources, and mitigate the adverse ecological effects of improper e-waste disposal, contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable future. Common electronic devices that can be recycled include smartphones, computers, tablets, light bulbs, computer accessories (such as keyboards and printers), gaming consoles, and batteries. These devices can be recycled to prevent them from ending up in landfills and leaking toxins into the environment. Recycling these electronics helps reduce e-waste production and promotes sustainability by recovering valuable materials like metals and plastics for reuse in new products.
