Pasadena will celebrate Arbor Day on Saturday, April 20, in an event that stands as a testament to the strong partnership between the Public Works Department, Pasadena Beautiful Foundation, and City Council District 4, whose leaders have launched a joint effort to foster green spaces and environmental stewardship.

The celebration will be at Victory Park, located at 2575 Paloma Street, from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. Attendees are to gather at the parking lot off Paloma Street.

During the event, Public Works Forestry staff will lead demonstrations on planting new trees and share essential tree care tips. Volunteers will then be assigned to assist planting supervisors and complete tree-planting activities throughout the park.

Volunteers are advised to wear closed-toe footwear and appropriate attire. Free mulch and tree care informational items will be available for pickup.

The Pasadena Beautiful Foundation (PBF) has generously donated 25 new 24-inch box Eastern Redbud (Cercis canadensis) trees for the occasion. These trees, individually tagged by PBF volunteer Emina Darakjy, will contribute to enhancing the city’s greenery.

An announcement by the Department of Public Works said staff from the Departments of Public Works and Parks, Recreation, and Community Services (PRCS) have identified and prepared the planting sites for the event.

Pasadena has been a Tree City USA designee for 34 years, as recognized by the Arbor Day Foundation. The city is a proud caretaker of its urban forest, which is home to more than 60,000 trees and dozens of species. The announcement said the city remains committed to preserving and celebrating this urban forest and to upholding the principles of the Tree City USA program.

This year’s Arbor Day event not only symbolizes unity and collaboration among various stakeholders but also signifies a shared vision for a greener and more sustainable Pasadena.
