Before Mayor Victor Gordo leads the  Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Ceremony, this Friday, there needs to be a tree.

This year’s tree — a 21-foot Noble Fir from an Oregon tree farm— was delivered late on Tuesday afternoon to Pasadena City Hall too late to be decorated that day, so after the tree was unloaded and put into place in the City Hall Rotunda by a team from Pasadena Parks and Recreation, a team from Pasadena Public Works spent much of Wednesday adding more than 200 decorations to the impressive Noble Fir, in time for the Friday event.

The free celebration will feature local singers and dancers, crafts provided by Armory Center for the Arts, light refreshments, and a special appearance by Santa Claus.

Mayor Gordo will light the City’s official tree at 6 p.m.

Pasadena Fire Department firefighters will also be at the tree lighting ceremony collecting donations of new, unwrapped toys, sports equipment and gift cards for the annual Spark of Love Toy Drive.

Live entertainment will feature performances by local groups, including Pasadena’s Afterschool Adventures Program, Rosebud Academy choir, Willard Elementary’s Rising Stars, Pasadena LEARNs, and Elements Dance Space, along with MCs, retired police Lieutenant Rodney “Rodney D” Wallace and retired Sergeant Glen Thompson.

Viewers can access the live broadcast starting at 5 p.m. on KPAS TV, Charter Spectrum Channel 3, AT&T U-Verse Channel 99. Or The Pasadena Media website, as well as OTT Roku, Amazon Fire TV, and Apple TV Pasadena Media apps.
