Local school officials are planning to take part in an online forum next week with a state budget expert to discuss how the pandemic could impact the state’s budget, particularly as it pertains to education, organizers said.

The discussion will be held at 5 p.m. Dec. 17 via Zoom, according to newly elected Pasadena Area Community College District Governing Board Member Sandra Chen Lau, who is hosting the event along with Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education Member Michelle Richardson Bailey and newly elected La Canada Flintridge Unified School District Board of Education Member Caroline Que Anderson.

The featured guest will be State Assembly Budget Committee Chief Consultant Christian Griffith.

“The discussion will be centered on the impact of COVID 19 on the state budget, especially as it pertains to education, [including] K-12 and community colleges,” Lau said in a written statement. Griffith is responsible for overseeing the drafting of the state’s $156-billion budget and will be available to answer questions.

Those interested in joining the meeting are asked to RSVP via email to sandrachenlau.pcc@gmail.com. A link to the Zoom meeting will be provided upon RSVP.
