A Pasadena man, confronted by three suspects who tried to wrench off his backpack after they doused him with pepper-spray and threatened him with a knife, managed to chase down his attackers and enlist the help of nearby Sheriff’s deputies.

One the attackers was arrested. And the man never lost control of his backpack, authorities said.

The incident unfolded Wednesday night about 9:32 in Central Park across from the Del Mar Metro station in the 200 block of South Raymond Avenue, Pasadena police Lt. Pete Hettema said.

The 36-year-old victim was walking through the park when three suspects approached and demanded his property. After the attack, the unsuccessful robbers fled across Raymond Avenue into the Metro station with the victim in pursuit.

The victim yelled to Sheriff’s deputies patrolling the station, who were able to arrest a 14-year old juvenile from Azusa.

The other two suspects escaped, Hettema said.

Hettema said the man was uninjured.
