The Pasadena Police Department arrested three drivers on suspicion of DUI while fielding extra officers throughout the city on Friday with the goal of finding and arresting intoxicated drivers, officials said.

“Driving under the influence is dangerous, illegal and puts a further strain on resources in the middle of a pandemic,” Pasadena police Lt. Anthony Russo said in a written statement. “We are still out there and will not hesitate to stop those who drive impaired.”

In addition to alcohol, officials said, marijuana, prescription drugs and even over-the-counter medications can interfere with a person’s ability to safely drive.

Those arrested for DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, in addition to having their driver licenses suspended.

Funding for Friday’s campaign was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
