Police persuaded a man to climb back from the edge of the Colorado Street Bridge and accept help after negotiating with him for about 45 minutes on Saturday morning, officials said.
Authorities first received a report about 7:50 a.m. of a man standing outside the safety fencing installed along the bridge above Arroyo Blvd., Pasadena police Lt. Anthony Russo said.
Officers arrived to find the man in an alcove between the security fence and the shorter barrier at the bridges ledge, he said. The man had alcohol with him and was wearing no shoes.
Traffic was shut down on the bridge as officials worked to resolve the situation.
“We negotiated with him for about 45 minutes. He agreed to climb back over,” Russo said.
Officials took the man, a Riverside resident, to a hospital for evaluation, he said.
