Thursday’s emergency Public Safety Committee meeting was canceled.
“City Manager Steve Mermell has decided that due to possible protests he is sending staff home early and that it is in the best interest of the city to postpone the meeting until next week,” said City Spokesperson Lisa Derderian.
“This is incredibly disappointing,” Juliana Serrano of All Saints Church, co-organizer of the Coalition For Increased Civilian Oversight of Pasadena Police posted on Facebook Thursday afternoon.
“George Floyd’s memorial service is happening right now and I can’t think of a better way our City could have celebrated his life and declared that his death was not in vain, than by having our (alleged) police oversight body, talk about real oversight models for the department. I want to note that the Pasadena Public Safety Committee has only met twice in 2020. TWICE! It is time they get to work.”
The meeting will be rescheduled.
