Residents Urged to Participate in Public Hearing and Community Meetings on Proposed Water Rate Adjustments

Pasadena residents were urged by City officials to voice their concerns and perspectives at a public hearing that Pasadena Water and Power is conducting on Monday, June 3, regarding proposed water rate adjustments.

Community meetings, both in-person and virtual, have also been scheduled to gauge community input about the planned adjustments.

PWP has proposed the water rate adjustments in order to address rising operating costs and fund essential water infrastructure improvements.

Before the City Council decides to convene to consider adopting the adjustments, consumers and community members are urged to share their sentiments and provide input at the public hearing and during the community meetings as part of the critical decision-making process.

PWP reported it had mailed a Notice of Public Hearing to water consumers for June 3, 5:30 p.m. at the City Council Chamber at City Hall. The notice includes information about a recommended rate structure redesign, and individual customer bill impacts based on customer type and water usage.

The utility has also set up community meetings, the first of which will be virtual on Wednesday, April 24, at 6 p.m. via PWPweb.com/Events. Following this are in-person meetings on Wednesday, May 1, 6:30 p.m. at Victory Park Recreation Center, located at 2575 Paloma Street, and on Thursday, May 23 at Robinson Park Recreation Center, at 1081 N. Fair Oaks Avenue.

To facilitate customer understanding of potential bill impacts, PWP has also developed an online “bill estimator,” providing a simplified version of billing inputs to help customers gauge potential changes in their household budgets. This estimator also covers proposed changes effective for sewer and refuse services from the City of Pasadena Public Works Department.

For more information on the proposed water rate adjustments, the upcoming public hearing, or to utilize PWP’s bill estimator tool, residents are encouraged to visit PWPweb.com/WaterRateDesign or contact the City Service Center at (626) 744-7311 during business hours.
