Rose Bowl Press Box Faces Wrecking Ball Wednesday

Phase two of the $152 million dollar renovation of the historic Rose Bowl stadium will begin Wednesday, Jan. 11 with the partial demolition of the famous stadium’s press box.

The work will be followed by renovations which ultimately will actually significantly increase in size from approximately 45,000 square feet to 150,000 square feet.

The renovation is part of the largest investment in the history of the iconic 89-year-old stadium. The three-year project is to be completed in time for the 100th Rose Bowl Game in 2014.

In addition to the renovated press box, phase two of the project will include widening of four tunnels on the north end, concrete repair of the north seating deck of the bowl, north field wall improvements, addition of exiting aisles within the north seating area of the bowl, and new 17KV electrical equipment to support the improvements to the Rose Bowl.

Renovations to the new press box will provide catering services and lavish premium seating options. When completed, the new press box will accommodate approximately 1,200, including the media, coaching staffs and premium-seating ticket holders. Already completed, as part of phase one of the three-year renovation, are updated infrastructure items, a state-of-the-art video board at the north end, a vintage scoreboard at the south end and widened tunnels and additional aisles to expedite spectator flow in and out of the stadium.
