Salary Schedules And Pasadena Transit Services On Monday’s City Council Consent Calendar

As part of Monday’s City Council consent calendar is a proposal to adopt a resolution establishing a citywide wage and salary schedule.

“The wages, benefits, and other terms and working conditions of employment for all classifications in the City workforce are established through a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) for represented classifications, or via salary resolution for unrepresented classifications,” a city staff report explains.

“Each MOU and salary resolution contains a salary schedule reflecting the pay rates and their effective dates for all classifications within that bargaining unit or unrepresented employee group.”

A sweep vote would authorize that as well as allow City Manager Steve Mermell to enter into a maximum $851,630 contract with Acclamation Insurance Management services for workers compensation third-party claims administrative services.

The City Manager could also enter into a $600,000 contract with the LA County Sheriff’s Department for special events other than New Year’s activities, for a period of five years not to exceed $3 million.

In addition, the Water and Power Department could receive a new bucket truck if a $406,566 purchase order is approved.

Monday’s agenda also includes a request for approval of a side letter agreement with the Pasadena Firefighters Association.

On May 19, the parties met and mutually agreed to reduce the probationary period for the classifications of Firefighter and Firefighter Paramedic from 18 months to 12 months. The proposed change is expected to assist with the recruitment and retention of new firefighters by aligning the probationary period with that of comparable agencies in the labor market.

Furthermore, the 21-week Fire Recruit Academy followed by a 12-month probationary period will provide the department with sufficient time to assess job performance and determine whether the prospective employee has demonstrated the requisite job skills necessary to pass probation, the report states.
The final item on Monday’s consent calendar is a $41,068,924 five-year contract from July 1 to June 30, 2026 with First Transit, Inc. to operate the city’s fixed route (Pasadena Transit and Dial-A-Ride) transit services.
