A 30-year-old South Pasadena Police Department employee looking forward to a new career as a police dispatcher died Saturday from complications related to COVID-19, the department said Monday.

Bayron Salguero had been a police assistant, the agency said in a written statement. “Bayron had just completed the dispatch training program and was due to start his new shift next week.”

In his short time with the department, Salguero made a big impact, Deputy Chief Brian Solinksy said.

“Bayron made a lasting impression on all that met him,” he said. “He was a consummate professional who had a bright career ahead of him. Bayron was a man who deeply cared about his family and always brought a joyful smile wherever he went. He will be deeply missed,” said Solinsky.

Salguero is survived by his parents and two sisters, officials said.

“Though he was with us for only a short time, he quickly became a part of our family. He had a great attitude and was admired by everyone for his work ethic and willingness to learn,” the statement said. “We will miss you, Bayron, Rest In Peace. PA Salguero, you are end of watch, January 16, 2021.”

A fund to assist Salguero’s family with medical bills and funeral expenses online at https://www.gofundme.com/f/bayron-salguero-adventure-is-out-there had garnered more than $15,000 in donations in less than a single day as of Monday afternoon.
