State of the City Speech to Highlight Challenges, Accomplishments, and Future Prospects

Mayor Victor Gordo will honor a City Charter mandate on Thursday when he delivers the annual State of the City speech.

The City Charter requires the Mayor to deliver a thematic budget speech no later than February every year.

The speech kicks off the run-up to the City Council’s budget submission in May.

This year, the speech will be held at 7 p.m. at Caltech’s Cahill Center for Astronomy and Astrophysics 1216 E. California Blvd. in Pasadena.

The speech is themed “Leaping into the Future,” and will highlight the city’s challenges, accomplishments, and future prospects.

The purpose of the speech is to encourage public suggestions and comments on the City budget prior to its preparation and ultimate approval by the City Council. This is Gordo’s fourth State of the City speech and the third one held in front of a live audience. The 2021 speech was held at Gordo’s home and presented virtually due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Vice Mayor Steve Madison will introduce the Mayor.

Doors will open at 6:30 p.m. Free on-site parking will be available at the Caltech parking garage, and Spanish translation will be available.
