Police arrested a man after they say he opened fire on another man, but did not hit him, following a minor car crash in Pasadena on Friday afternoon.
Omar Lopez-Vazquez, 26, of Highland Park was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon within two hours of the shooting, which took place about 12:40 p.m in the 600 block of Mar Vista Avenue, near Orange Grove Boulevard, according to Pasadena police officials and Los Angeles County booking records.
He was at the wheel of a car when he was involved in a minor collision with another motorist, Pasadena police Lt. Sean Dawkins said.
Lopez-Vazquez got out of his car and shot at the other driver, missing him, before returning to his vehicle and speeding off, police said.
The victim also left the area before officers arrived, Dawkins said. But he added that the suspect and victim were believed to have known one another prior to the incident.
Police soon found the suspect’s car parked nearby and took him into custody at an apartment complex, Dawkins said. A gun was seized as evidence.
According to Los Angeles County Superior Court records, Lopez-Vazquez was released from custody later in the afternoon pending legal proceedings after posting a $50,000 bond.
