Join the Pasadena Public Library and City of Hope for an evening with David “Sonny” Lacks on Thursday, February 28, 7 p.m. at Central Library’s Donald R. Wright Auditorium, 285 E. Walnut St.

Lacks is the son of Henrietta Lacks, whose cells were taken without her knowledge and became the first immortal cell line called the HeLa or hela cell, used for scientific breakthroughs throughout the world. Lacks puts a personal face on the story told in The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. He will discuss issues of race, ethics and the commercialization of human tissue, Henrietta’s unparalleled contribution to science and the impact this book has had on the Lacks family.

Participants who has questions that they would like to pose to Sonny Lacks, please email it by February 11 to diversityandinclusion@coh.org.
