The Law Offices of Donald P. Schweitzer Announces Partner Casey Marticorena’s Certification as a Family Law Specialist

The Law Offices of Donald P. Schweitzer (LODPS), Pasadena’s premier family law firm, today announced that Partner Casey Marticorena has received her certification as a family law specialist. She joins the firm’s Partner & Founder Don Schweitzer, and Partner Patrick Baghdaserians as a Certified Family Law Specialist.

Attorneys can apply for specialist certification after they have been in practice for at least five years and demonstrate a high level of experience in their area of law, including a minimum amount of trials, hearings, settlements, stipulations, and mediations. Certified specialists must complete over 45 hours of mandatory continuing legal education over a three-year period covering specific family law areas rather than the 25 hours non-specialist lawyers must complete every three years. Additionally, specialists have taken and passed a written examination akin to a one-day “mini-bar” examination, and positive third party evaluations from other attorneys and judges familiar with their work must take place for final certification.

Ms. Marticorena began with the firm as Associate Attorney and was promoted to Partner of LODPS in December 2014. She handles various aspects of family law, including child custody disputes, child support, spousal support and division of property and domestic violence; and also helps with management of personnel, development of procedures and policy, and in the development of the firm’s business.

Ms. Marticorena serves as a pro bono Family Law Mediator for the Los Angeles Superior Court Family Law Departments and is on the Pasadena Bar Association’s 2015 Executive Board. She attended Southwestern University School of Law where she received a CALI Award for excellence in family law. While at Southwestern, she was an extern for the Target Crimes Division of Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office and the Judicial Extern to the Honorable Judge Amy M. Pellman of the Los Angeles Superior Court, Family Law Division.

Prior to Southwestern University, Ms. Marticorena attended the University of California, Irvine and graduated Cum Laude, receiving her Bachelor of Arts in behavioral psychology. Ms. Marticorena also graduated UC Irvine as a member of Phi Beta Kappa, a prestigious national honors society.
