Tuesday’s Focus Shifts From Shopping to Giving

Pasadena is known for its compassion and for its charitable giving. The city boasts thousands of nonprofits, a vibrant component of a rich local legacy and tradition of supporting arts, education and caring institutions.

Today marks the annual global generosity movement known as Giving Tuesday. 

This event, held each year on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving, encourages people and organizations to transform their communities and the world, and is expected to resonate with local philanthropists of all means.

Founded in 2012 by New York’s 92nd Street Y in partnership with the United Nations Foundation, Giving Tuesday has grown into a global phenomenon. In 2021 alone, nonprofits in the U.S. raised $2.7 billion.

A broad swath of Pasadena non-profits have been busily mounting email campaigns to remind their constituents that today is the day to put down the shopping list and think about charitable giving.

Local stalwarts like Pasadena Humane, the Pasadena Community Foundation, the Hemophilia Foundation of Southern California, Friends In Deed, Union Station Homeless Services, Five Acres and Hillsides and many other important local nonprofits which play oversized roles in the life of the Pasadena community are gently reminding Pasadenans about their accomplishments and needs.

From musical education and cultural organizations like the Pasadena Symphony and the Pasadena Showcase House for the Arts, to caring agencies like Villa Esperanza, active local nonprofits abound.

Giving Tuesday presents nonprofits with a day full of opportunities.
