UCLA Director of Athletics Martin Jarmond Speaks at Pasadena Quarterbacks Club Friday

Published on Friday, October 28, 2022 | 5:50 am

Ahead of the UCLA Bruins game against the Stanford Cardinal this weekend, Bruins Athletic Director Martin Jarmond will be in Pasadena to discuss all things related to the Bruin football season at the Pasadena Quarterbacks Club’s third meeting this Friday, October 28.

“Mr. Jarmond chose this date to come to the Pasadena Quarterback Club after agreeing to appear this season,” Pasadena Quarterbacks president, Craig Franzen said.

Franzen added that aside from Bruin athletics, Jarmond may also choose to discuss how UCLA is handling the athletes’ mental health crisis seen on many campuses across the nation as well as the impending move from the Pac-12.

In June, both USC and UCLA announced their move to the BIG 10 conference, starting in 2024. UCLA leaving the Pac-12 for the Big Ten was a move that sent shockwaves through the college football community.

The meeting on Friday, which is open to members and non-members of the club includes lunch and an opportunity draw.

Jarmond will speak after a lunch of chicken Caesar salad with rolls and dessert, which will be served at 11:30 a.m. The cost for a guest luncheon is $60.

The club has invited a couple of local coaches to speak, however, it is unclear at the time of this writing whether or not they will be able to attend the meeting.

This year, Pasadena Quarterbacks are dedicating their season to athletes’ mental health.

Last September, Franzen said Pasadena Quarterbacks is in the process of vetting several local organizations that they’d like to partner with, to raise money this season for programs in support of mental health not only among college athletes but also those in high school.

Before the pandemic happened, the club held weekly meetings during the fall to hear prominent speakers from the sports world as well as college and high school coaches. But due to the pandemic restrictions, the club had canceled its meetings during the early stages of the pandemic.

“Our season has been a success coming out of COVID protocols that virtually eliminated our club’s ability to meet for two seasons. We have consistent attendance and look forward to continually making our club better and better,” Franzen said.

The final event of the club for the 2022 season is its USC/UCLA Rivalry meeting which will be held on November 18. The meeting will be hosted by sports journalist Harvey Hyde.
