Woman Attempts Suicide by Standing on Tracks in Front of Metro Train

Published on Saturday, October 19, 2013 | 6:32 am

Police say a woman attempted suicide Sunday morning by standing on the Metro line railroad tracks at California Blvd. as a northbound train bore down on her, but the train’s engineer was able to make an emergency stop in time and did not strike her.

The incident occurred just after 4:00 a.m., Pasadena police Lt. Jason Clawson said.

A passing citizen saw the 38-year-old woman standing on the tracks and the train speeding towards her and called police.

Clawson said the arriving officer grabbed the woman and pulled her from the tracks. As he did so, the woman said she was trying to kill herself.

The woman was not injured and there were no reports of injured train passengers, Clawson said. She was placed in protective custody and may be held for up to 72 hours for a psychiatric evaluation.

This is the second time in as two days that police have intervened to rescue women attempting suicide. On Friday morning, an officer talked a young woman down from the Lake Avenue bridge over the Foothill 210 Freeway after she climbed outside the protective fence and threatened to jump.

That woman, too, was unhurt after the incident. [For more, click here.]
