A postal carrier involved in a dispute at a Pasadena intersection Wednesday was chased for blocks and confronted by an enraged woman driver who screamed at her and allegedly squirted pepper spray in the carrier’s face.

Pasadena police said the female postal carrier suffered swelling and redness from the caustic spray, but no other injury after the 10:42 a.m. incident which started at the corner of Claremont Street and North Vista Avenue.

“The postal carrier inadvertently cut off another vehicle at the intersection due to confusion regarding the right-of-way,” Pasadena Police Lt. John Luna said. “The suspect became angry at the victim and followed her.”

The suspect confronted the victim in the 1000 block of North Lake Avenue about the driving incident and began yelling at her, Luna said.

He said the suspect was very angry and sprayed the victim in the face with pepper spray.

Both the victim and her attacker are described as Hispanic women in their fifties. According to police, the attacker stands about 5’6″, weighs about 160 pounds, has dark hair and a medium complexion. She fled in a late model, light-colored pick-up truck heading south on Lake Avenue.

Responding officers canvassed the area and were not able to locate the suspect. If caught, the suspect will likely face a charge of PC 244, assault with caustic chemicals, police said.
