A Union Station Homeless Services program manager whose body was discovered near a picnic area at Hahamongna Watershed Park in Pasadena last week died from stab wounds and her death has been ruled a homicide, according to coroner’s records.
The body of Elena Ledford, 49, of Glendale, was discovered by a jogger just before 8 a.m. on Nov. 24 at the park, just southeast of the intersection of Oak Grove Drive and Foothill Boulevard, according to Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner and Pasadena police officials.
Police initially said Ledford’s body had undisclosed visible injuries and “foul play” was suspected in her death.
An autopsy has since determined that Ledford died from “multiple sharp force injuries,” according to coroner’s records. The death was ruled a homicide.
No information regarding a possible suspect or motive in the killing has been released.
Ledford is survived by a 14-year-old daughter, according to Union Station Homeless Services, where Ledford worked in outreach for the past three years.
“We are shocked and devastated by the sudden and tragic death of Elena Ledford,” the organization said in a written statement.
“Elena was more than a beloved employee and coworker to us — she was a member of our Union Station Family. We extend our deepest sympathies to the Ledford Family for this unfathomable loss, the statement said.
An online fundraiser established by Union Station at gofundme.com/f/elenaledford to benefit Ledford’s daughter had garnered more than $18,000 in donations as of Wednesday.
Anyone with information on the case was urged to contact the Pasadena Police Department at (626) 744-4501. Tips may also be submitted anonymously to L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-8477.
