Alverno Acknowledges its Student Scientists and Teachers

In celebration of National Day of Women and Girls in Science, Alverno Heights Academy (AHA) wanted to acknowledge its Alverno student scientists. Alverno students do not just learn science, they live it. AHA is proud of its involved and advanced science programs, including Honors Independent Research in Science (HIRS) program, the Science Night with Caltech and an iGem competition winning team! Alverno offers Advanced Placement courses and diverse classes like Forensics, Neuroscience, Physics and Environmental Science. With the guidance of AHA teachers Ms. Ares, Ms. Barsever and Ms. Grimstad, students have explored a variety of sciences and are encouraged to continue on after high school.

And as a result, 45% of alumnae go into science fields in college. So many students who studied science after graduating from Alverno have become doctors and nurses, and have been on the front lines of the pandemic. AHA is proud of its current Alverno scientists and those that have continued on living lives of service in science!

About Alverno Heights Academy

Alverno Heights Academy is an all-girls, independent, progressive Catholic, college preparatory school dedicated to its mission of empowering each young woman to be exactly the person she wants to be. Located on the property of the former Barlow Estate in Sierra Madre, California, Alverno Heights Academy was founded in 1960 by the Sisters of St. Francis who sought to create an environment in the San Gabriel Valley where young women could become informed and knowledgeable persons. Later renamed Alverno High School and sponsored by the Immaculate Heart Community, Alverno’s program—academic, spiritual, aesthetic, social, and physical—has been shaped by the staff, trustees, and students. As Alverno Heights Academy once again, the school remains committed to its mission by encouraging each of their young women to be who they imagine.
