Annual Student-led Ceramics Events Offer Fun, Community, and Raise Funds for Local Nonprofits
While the Westridge community is in the midst of Mug-a-Palooza*, the four seniors who ran last spring’s Bowl-a-Thon* met this week with the good folks at the Fulfillment Fund to deliver the $1960.72 raised through the Bowl-a-Thon and learn about what their donation will support. Click here for a video about Fulfillment Fund’s work. (*Instead of mugs, the community made bowls last year.)
“I’m so proud of them, and my community too,” said art faculty member Lorri Deyer, who leads this annual event with students. “To realize that art and community can make a difference is what this is about, but to accomplish so much as only a mighty group of four is especially awesome.”
Mug-a-Palooza is an event led by Westridge’s Clay Design and Engineering II students. They host workshops teaching students and other community members how to throw mugs in the ceramics studio. There is a glazing workshop this Saturday, November 16 (10 am-2 pm) which is open to all community members. Then, on Tuesday, December 10, the mugs will be available to purchase from 3:45-5:30 on the Herrick Quad. Hot drinks and desserts will be served!
