Celebrating Water Through Art: Ramona Convent AP Students Create Tribute to a Shared Resource
After completing their AP Art portfolios, students at Ramona Convent Secondary School were given a unique opportunity to create a final artwork for the entire school community to enjoy. This culminating project allowed students to freely explore their creativity while connecting their personal artistic journeys to a larger social theme.
Elizabeth D. ’25, Georgia P. ’25, and Brianna V. collaborated on a vibrant poster using oil pastels, incorporating a textured background inspired by the movement and linework of Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night. The trio skillfully merged elements from their individual sustained investigations—ranging from character design and jellyfish imagery to themes of animal interaction—into a unified piece reflecting the Sisters of the Holy Names’ Corporate Stand on “Water as a Human Right and Public Good.”
The students chose a cool palette of blues to emphasize the water theme, accented by strategic use of yellows to bring contrast and visual energy. Installed above the Art Studio sink, their artwork serves as a visual reminder to use water thoughtfully and sustainably.
This thoughtful and beautifully executed piece leaves a lasting impression – both artistically and environmentally.
