Colorful Student-Created Banner Livens Exterior of South Pasadena Middle School Arts Building

Last spring, art teacher Denise Tanaka led a design contest for South Pasadena Middle School students. Itusi Yoshioka, who is now a freshman at SPHS, won the design contest by creating an image that depicts the disciplines that encompass the arts building, including music, visual arts, drama, and robotics. Many students in 7th and 8th grades brought Yoshioka’s design to life by preparing and painting a custom-sized banner, which is now complete and affixed to the wall.

SPUSD used funding provided by its Los Angeles County Arts Education Collective Advancement Grant for the banner materials. Thank you to Denise Tanaka for guiding the students through this experience.
