Exploring Urban Biodiversity: Southwestern Academy Biology Students Visit the Los Angeles River

Last week, Southwestern Academy’s Ms. Russo’s Biology class took an exciting field trip to the Los Angeles River, where students explored the local ecosystem firsthand. As they walked along the riverbanks, they identified and observed a wide variety of bird species in their natural habitat. From graceful waterfowl gliding across the surface to songbirds perched in nearby trees, students were able to connect their classroom studies to real-world biodiversity. The trip provided a valuable opportunity to practice observation skills and deepen their understanding of urban wildlife conservation.
