Flintridge Prep’s Kaitlyn Chen Receives John R. Wooden High School Player of the Year Award for CIF Southern Section Division II

Flintridge Prep’s Kaitlyn Chen ’20 added another award to her already crowded mantle. Over the summer, Kaitlyn received the John R. Wooden High School Player of the Year Award for CIF Southern Section Division II! Flintridge Preparatory School (FPS) congratulates Kaitlyn! FPS is so proud of Kaitlyn and her continued accomplishments as she starts her freshman year playing for the Princeton Tigers.

As girls basketball coach Jayme Kiyomura says, Kaitlyn is one of a kind: “In our 20 plus years of coaching high school basketball, Kaitlyn is one of the most elite players we have had the pleasure of coaching. Our girls basketball program at Flintridge Prep has become a well respected program and is now considered to be amongst the most elite programs in Southern California. We have gone from DIV 5AA to DIV 2AA in 8 short seasons.”

While the girls team is preparing for next season with the new CIF guidelines, they were thrilled to learn about Kaitlyn’s exciting award. “Our players were all very happy to hear the news that their captain, teammate, and friend had been awarded the prestigious John Wooden Award,” Kiyomura says. “We hope that this award inspires our returning players to be the best that they can be on and off the court.”
