Hands-On Harmony: Crestview Faculty Explore Music and Creativity Together

At Crestview Preparatory School, the faculty and staff recently surprised everyone with a lively in-service day activity. In a spontaneous, hands-on musical presentation, teachers stepped into the role of performers, taking up a variety of real and invented instruments and inviting their colleagues to join in. Among the instruments seen were drums, congas or tall drums, tambourines, maracas, and cowbells, as well as others made up or modified for imaginative effect.

This impromptu session was led by Mrs. Marko, one of Crestview’s music teachers, whose enthusiasm served as the catalyst for the event. Her leadership encouraged fellow teachers and staff to step outside their usual routines and experiment with rhythm, sound, and collaboration in a playful yet educational context.
“Thank you to all of Crestview Preparatory School faculty presenters at our recent In-Service! Here is a peek at some impromptu hands-on learning led by the fabulous Mrs. Marko,” read the school’s original message. The spirit of that message – gratitude, spontaneity, and collaborative learning – reflects Crestview’s vision of an educational environment where teachers model active learning themselves.

The activity was more than just a performance—it served as a professional development moment, allowing faculty members to experience what it’s like to teach and learn through music, to improvise, to listen and respond to one another in real time. It underscored Crestview’s commitment to integrating the arts into the broader educational culture, demonstrating that music can be a dynamic tool not only for student learning but for faculty growth and community building as well.
