Incoming 6th Graders Refine Their Writing Skills in Summer Workshop with Dr. Zanita Kelly

More than 20 Westridge School (WS) students in the Class of 2028 chose to spend their last week of summer getting to know their classmates and honing their writing skills in an optional writing workshop led by Director of Lower & Middle School Dr. Zanita Kelly.

Each morning, during hour-long sessions, students learned to harness the persuasive power of structure, synonyms, and carefully crafted conclusions by writing letters to President Biden. In their letters, which will be mailed to the White House after the workshop, students put their newfound skills into practice to urge the president to take action on an issue they are passionate about. A few of the issues students chose to address included banning animal testing in the United States and addressing global warming by staying committed to the Paris Climate Agreement. WS can confidently say that the incoming 6th grade class will be well-prepared to wow their teachers with their essay-writing abilities this school year!
