Maranatha Boys Tennis Overwhelmed by D3 Ranked Geffen Academy

Two seasons ago, Maranatha shared the Coastal League title with Geffen Academy. In 2024, the two squads could very well be the league bookends, with Geffen the heavy favorite to win the league title and Maranatha a contender to finish at the bottom. The Bruins are ranked #5 in CIF-SS Division 3, while the Minutemen are unranked in Division 5.

The rebuilding Minutemen will have their work cut out for them, as they will need to drastically improve over the next month and a half in order to stay out of the league cellar.

An even more far-fetched and ambitious goal will be to finish in 3rd place in league and qualify for a playoff spot. The last time the Minutemen missed the playoffs was in 2010.

All of today’s sets were blowouts, except the one set Maranatha’s Matt Yip won in singles, 6-4.

The 1-4 Minutemen next travel to California Academy of Math and Sciences (CAMS) on Tuesday.
