Maranatha Seaperch Team Wins Regionals; Headed to Internationals



For the third year in a row, Maranatha High School’s Science Club will be competing in the International SeaPerch Finals!

Maranatha’s Science Club traveled to Troy High School in Fullerton on February 24 to participate in the 2024 Los Angeles Regional SeaPerch Challenge. For the third straight year, MHS Science Club took 1st Place Overall at Regionals, earning the right to compete in this year’s 2024 International SeaPerch Finals on May 31, to be held at the University of Maryland.

For this year’s SeaPerch competition, Maranatha’s Science Club divided itself into two separate teams.

“Team A”, comprised of Team Captain Matthew Moon ’24, Shaurya Bhartia ’25, Kaylee Lam ‘26, Leo Liu ’24, Harrison Tang ‘26, and Spencer Wang ’26, won the following awards:

• Overall 1st Place HS Stock Class
• 2nd Place Mission Course HS Stock Class
• 1st Place Obstacle Course HS Stock Class
• 1st Place Technical Design & Team Video HS Stock Class

The students on “Team B” included Team Captain Eli Su ’24, Joseph Claros ’24, Jeffrey Jin ‘24, Fisher Podrebarac ‘24, Jeremy Ng ’25, and Daniel Wang ’24. Team “B” won the following awards:

• Overall 2nd Place HS Stock Class
• 3rd Place Mission Course HS Stock Class
• 2nd Place Obstacle Course HS Stock Class
• 2nd Place Technical Design & Team Video HS Stock Class

Once again, the Maranatha Science Club is grateful for the continued guidance of JPL’s Dr. Shouhua Huang. The Science Club would also like to thank Principal Dan Newkirk and Science Department co-chair Nathan Spear for their unconditional support!
