Marshall Alumni and Posse Scholarships Recipients Celebrate Juneteenth

On Saturday, June 19, 2021 Marshall Fundamental Alumni and recipients of the full tuition Posse Scholarships: • Yaneli Soriano, Class of 2013 – Kalamazoo College • Madison Elaine Triplett, Class of 2015 – Kalamazoo College (Also the 2015 Tournament of Roses Queen) and • Miles Kealing, Class of 2019 – Tulane University.. crossed paths at a Juneteenth Celebration Event hosted at the Grocery Outlet Parking Lot in Altadena. The event was organized and hosted by Rhonda Shorter, Rhythms of the Village, and other local community partners. It included performances, food, vendors, music, and more.

The Alumni and Posse Scholars shared rich stories about their college experiences and a funny story on how Yaneli and Madison had the same PE class at Kalamazoo and how on the same day they both showed up wearing their Marshall Senior Shirts. Madison hosted a booth with one of her current projects on display, “Black Boy Joy Production” , her Black joy photography series images. You can view her work here.: https://blog.reflctmedia.com/black-boy-joy/. They were happy to all join together in a Marshall Alumni and Posse Scholars Celebratory photo (both pictured above).
