During the Senior Awards Ceremony at Thurgood Marshall Secondary School, four graduating seniors were recognized as recipients of the 2026 Marshall PTSA Scholarship: Emma Detwiler, Leilani Ogletree, Jiwon Shin, and Nikolai (Niko) Valenzuela-Aguiar.

Each scholarship recipient was selected based on an essay submission responding to one of three prompts focused on community involvement, volunteer service and leadership, or their experience at Marshall. Through their essays, the students reflected on their personal contributions, the impact they made, and the valuable lessons they learned along the way.

The scholarships were presented by Marshall PTSA President Warren Bleeker.

The recipients will continue their educational journeys at the following institutions: Emma Detwiler at UC Berkeley, Leilani Ogletree at Clark University, Jiwon Shin at UC San Diego, and Nikolai (Niko) Valenzuela-Aguiar at California State University, Los Angeles.

“Congratulations to all!”
