New Horizon School Pasadena First Graders Celebrate Black History Month Through the Legacy of Alma Thomas
In celebration of Black History Month, first-grade students at New Horizon School Pasadena brought history and creativity together in their art classroom. Inspired by the vibrant work of renowned artist Alma Thomas, students explored bold color choices, rhythmic patterns, and joyful expression while learning about her lasting impact on the art world. Through thoughtful discussion and hands-on exploration, they discovered how Thomas used movement and color to tell powerful stories.
With paintbrushes in hand, the young artists experimented with repeating shapes and lively hues to create masterpieces of their own. The project encouraged creativity, confidence, and an appreciation for artistic trailblazers who paved the way for future generations. By honoring Alma Thomas’ legacy, students not only celebrated Black History Month but also discovered the power of their own artistic voices.
