Robotics in Action: Westridge School 5th Graders Explore the Coordinate Plane Through Coding

Over the last few days, 5th graders in Westridge Lower School teachers Monica Sanchez and Catherine Streicher’s class took learning about the coordinate plane to the next level! Using the floor tiles of their classroom as a life-sized coordinate plane, students worked in pairs writing pseudocode (an informal programming description) to program robots to simulate warehouse actions. They tapped their spatial awareness and problem-solving skills to ensure the robots moved the correct number of paces from a starting point to a pick-up point to retrieve an item and then proceed to a drop-off point!
